Vacancy: Apprentice Laboratory Technician (Ref: K39)

Location: Johnson Matthey Technology Centre, Sonning Common, RG4 9NH

The Emissions Control Research team have a vacancy for an apprentice to support the routine Clean Air characterisation activities - with special emphasis on business associated requests.

Key responsibilities
  • Preparing samples for testing, ageing and characterisation.

  • Performing analysis of the materials using standard characterisation methods (TPR; TPO; TPD; chemisorption; ex-situ UV-VIS; basic FTIR measurements).

  • Carrying out catalyst ageing/ testing activities.

  • Processing raw data.

  • Analysing straightforward data sets and communicating the results through reports and presentations.

  • Complying with all local EHS requirements.

  • Maintaining and encouraging a high standard of housekeeping in the laboratory areas.

  • To carry out any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.

Are you the ideal candidate?

You will have_

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs, grades C/4 or above, these must include English, Maths, and a science subject

  • An AS or A-Level in science would be an advantage but is not essential

  • Basic lab experience at college or school;

  • Basic Microsoft Office skills i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Accurate record-keeping skills and the ability to follow instructions carefully

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Please note if you already hold the Level 3 BTEC in Applied Science qualification or a degree in a scientific subject you are not eligible for apprentice funding for this role.
