Our specialist engineering and construction teams bring multi-sector innovation and technical skill - from building and highways, to large-scale water networks and treatment plants.


We're looking for an experienced Learning and Development (L&D) professional, who can be a key part of our exciting future, and lead the delivery of a customer focussed L&D service and ensure our people have the competence and training to undertake their role. This is a new role and a fantastic opportunity for somebody, who shares our purpose and ambition, is looking to make a difference and enjoys working in a fast-paced, busy environment. Based out of Huthwaite, with travel to regional offices, and three direct reports, you will support the HR Director in driving to deliver the business and team objectives.

What you'll be doing day to day

  • Support the HR Director to seek to continuously improve the quality of the L&D service
  • Understand the current and future requirements of the Company, to enable you to provide professional L&D support
  • Diagnose, design and deliver a suite of training courses, and other blended solutions such as coaching, eLearning and personal development training programmes.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement and monitor all training and development activity, policies and initiatives
  • Support the Company to be a high performing organisation with a focus on the purpose and evolving culture
  • Capture, analyse and translate L&D data for the HR Director to present
  • Prepare and own the annual L&D and technical training budget and targets and drive the achievement of these
  • Ensure all L&D data is accurately uploaded and maintained in the integrated HR and Payroll system
  • Accountability and responsibility for monitoring and evolving NM Academy's strategy and plan
  • Stakeholder engagement for the new Graduate programme and it's roll out
  • Lead and evolve talent management and succession planning across the Company
  • Lead the development of the appraisal software, My Performance and fully embed
  • Continually analyse and evaluate training and development activities to develop and improve content and delivery through regular benchmarking
  • Provide advice and lead with a pragmatic approach on all matters, ensuring consistency and quality at all times
  • Keep up-to-date with L&D best practice, look for innovative solutions and challenge the norm
  • Provide support and mentoring to other members of the team as required
  • Delivery of year on year customer satisfaction and overall improvements in efficiency


The experience we're looking for in a candidate


  • Chartered CIPD member desirable, but not essential
  • Commitment to customer satisfaction through the achievement of quality
  • Expertise in learning across technical, leadership and performance development
  • Previous experience as a L&D specialist, offering solutions to improve L&D
  • Experience of managing apprenticeship and leadership development programmes
  • Ability to present new initiatives to HRD
  • Extensive experience in a fast paced, national and multi-site business
  • Ability to prioritise a varied workload and demonstrate good time management to comply with deadlines
  • The ability to deal with and influence senior stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to hold challenging conversations
  • Hands on, operational approach with the willingness to get involved in a wide range of business activities
  • Strong analytical and IT skills
