We are looking for an accomplished, enthusiastic leader who is a self-motivated, conscientious and talented with excellent communication skills and a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction to lead an IT function now and for the future. You will provide broad technical direction to a strong IT team in order to advance the technology strategy, mission and objectives of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). As the RSC's Technology Director you will support the society's mission and objectives and improve the overall operational effectiveness and efficiency of the RSC by leveraging technology. In doing so, you will need to foster innovation and excellence, support world-class research and creative works and enhance business systems to improve effectiveness and communication across the organisation. You need to be an expert in relationship management as well as stakeholder engagement.

Reporting to the Deputy CEO and in collaboration with colleagues on the Leadership Team, you will provide direction and strategic leadership to the Royal Society of Chemistry. The Royal Society of Chemistry is the world's leading chemistry community, advancing excellence in the chemical sciences. With over 50,000 members and a knowledge business that spans the globe, they are the UK's professional body for chemical scientists, supporting and representing their members and bringing together chemical scientists from all over the world.

This type of role would suit a senior technology leader who can handover from the current interim Technology Director, and take on the existing technology strategy and a programme of continuous improvements and ensure delivery. The primary requirement is for a style of leadership and communication that will aid the collaboration of IT with the rest of the organisation.

Knowledge and skills required:

  • Clarity of vision, aligned with organisational strategy, together with the ability to take both a global and lateral view, using sound commercial judgement.
  • Strong leadership skills, especially in directing and leading distributed teams.
  • Perceptive, supportive and collaborative leader with board level experience.
  • Extensive experience in online platform builds and the delivery of digital content eg on public facing websites.
  • Experience of auditing technology capability and working with senior leaders to deliver a joined up and appropriate target operating model.
  • Ability to influence and work effectively with corporate partners at a senior level, to engage them in projects that benefit their company, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the chemical science community.
  • Highly self-motivated, resourceful and achievement-oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal, written, presentation) and a customer-focused approach are essential.
