The Head Gardener will provide the efficient and effective management of all aspects of estate gardens and plants/trees.

To be involved with and assist the General Manager/Resort Director with the selection of the Gardening and Grounds Contractor including helping to review and update the specification as required.

To provide colourful and interesting gardens whilst keeping a secure and safe environment for the residents, commercial tenants and staff in mind.

To develop the gardens in a cost effective manner including growing on plants and working with the facilities manager and gardening contractors to ensure that plants are in the right environment in terms of weather, sunlight, irrigation etc.

Maintain regular communication with the General Manager, monthly reports and meet formally once a month.

To ensure garden and grounds records are up to date.

To ensure incidents/accident and near miss reports are completed when necessary and shared with the GM.

Foster a positive and professional relationship with resident's who take an interest in the gardens and the NPWLRA, other stake holders in the estate such as landlords, commercial tenants and housing association. Outside the estate: liaising with the external bodies such as garden and wildlife associations, Tower of Hamlets.

Operations

Day to day gardening duties to include and not limited to pruning, weeding, watering, growing, planting, hedge cutting, leaf collection, composting, grass cutting.

Weekly supervision of the gardening and grounds contractor to instruct and supervise their work. Conducting meetings with the contractor management as required and documenting agreed outcomes.

Monitoring and report of outputs from the gardens and contractor

Managing SLA and KPI's of the gardens and grounds.

Keeping an inventory of all tools and gardening equipment up to date.

Ensure that all gardening equipment is stored secure and kept in good working order.

Ensure all COSHH records and risk assessments are up to date in terms of gardening and grounds duties and products used.

Develop and lead on innovation of the gardens and grounds.

Customer Relations

Ensure that you deliver a supportive and sympathetic service to residents. Direct complaints and compliments to the Residential Services Manager/General Manager as appropriate.

Financial

Provide operational information to the General Manager as required supporting the preparation of the annual service charge budget. Liaise with the GM in respect of operational requirements that may impact expenditure against budget such as keeping track of the planting and contractor's performance, tools and other items of expenditure.

Health and Safety

Ensure all paperwork in relation to accident, first aid and incident reporting is completed correctly by the in-house team and pass all of the relevant paperwork to the GM.

Assist the General Manager and Facilities Manager with the review of procedures and risk assessments no less than annually.

Administration

Attend meetings where required with the GM and the grounds and other contractors as appropriate.

This is a part time role- 24 hours per week- hours are flexible
