Commencing salary £34,017 per annum
The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.
The successful candidates will contribute to the advancement of the union’s aims by supporting the implementation of the union’s organising strategies to meet the key challenges faced, particularly in relation to ensuring employers meet their statutory obligations in respect of section 168 of the TULR(C) Act (paid time off for reps to undertake trade union duties).
They will do this by working with other stakeholders towards the establishment of self-sustaining negotiation and consultation structures within the region’s academies, free schools and Multi Academy Trusts (MATs), ensure local democratic accountability, support local activists in the development of branch structures and build capacity and activism at all levels of the union. A key aspect of the role will be to recruit, develop and support new activists and representatives to ensure their engagement and empowerment.
They will demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of employment law; apply initiative and analytical skills to problem-solving and exercise judgement; use influencing and negotiating skills; have previous experience and knowledge of working effectively (in a paid or elected position) within a democratic membership organisation/trade union; previous experience of acting as an advocate for members at workplace or local level; frequently dealing with sensitive and difficult situations tactfully and confidentially.
This role will entail extensive travel, regionally and nationally which may require occasional stays away from home and therefore a full and valid Driving Licence is an essential requirement.
In addition to salary, we offer good conditions including a non-superannuable luncheon allowance currently set at £1005, 6.6 weeks’ annual leave plus Christmas closure days and a final salary pension scheme. Salary and benefits are pro-rata for part-time applicants.

Applicants are also advised that interviews for this role are to be held on Monday 5 August.
We welcome applications from individuals seeking part-time, job-share or other flexible working arrangements
