Runnymede Council is looking to recruit an experienced team leader to be responsible for the day to day operation of the busy open space and allotments team, based in Chertsey.  This is an important role which is key in helping the Green Space team maintain the high quality parks and open spaces that Runnymede’s residents and visitors enjoy.  

Looking for a varied role? You could be out on site undertaking inspections, leading a party of volunteers, fixing a fence, instructing contractors or planning physical improvements to an open space. Or you could be in the office supporting colleagues dealing with contract administration or the allotments service. You might be investigating a complaint and then meeting the complainant to devise a solution.  As team leader, you will also be responsible for the day to day activities of your staff and their development through annual appraisals and one to ones. 

The main responsibilities will be to manage and support the small team who ensure that the Councils 300 plus hectares of open space and 9 allotment sites are properly maintained. You will carry out some site inspections yourself and ensure the remainder are completed by your team. You will also oversee the management of a range of ground maintenance contracts to ensure that high quality is consistently achieved. You will also ensure that queries and complaints are dealt with promptly and effectively.

You will need to demonstrate ability as a team leader and will have experience of overseeing grounds maintenance contracts. You will also have a good understanding of the procurement of work and contracts in a local authority context.  You will represent your team, so must be a good communicator, able to liaise positively with a range of stakeholders, including the public, colleagues and Councillors and be able to deal professionally and promptly with any escalated issues.

If you are self-motivated, able to prioritise your own work and that of the team, have an eye for detail and would enjoy a mix of office and outdoor work this could be the job for you.
