About the role

At the Canal & River Trust, we believe life’s better by water, and that the waterways we take care of have an important contribution to make to the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies. The Active Ageing, Cheshire Canal project is typical of the work we do – an externally funded programme of activities designed to engage over 55s in physical activity.

This is an opportunity to play a key part in the project, as you coordinate and deliver programme activities across the Cheshire waterways while also acting as leader or coach for some of the activities yourself. Another big part of your role will be to support the volunteering strategy, which will involve establishing a group of Active Waterway Volunteers and Activators and providing them with 1:1 support.

About you

We’re looking for someone with a broad range of relevant experience, including project delivery, community engagement, relationship management and some event planning. Other areas of experience we’d like to see include data collection, publicity and marketing, and safety management. Most important, you’ll have a proven track record of managing volunteers and will know exactly what it takes to keep people motivated and engaged.

About us
We’re the charity who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of canals and rivers. Our waterways contribute to the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies, creating attractive and connected places to live, work, volunteer and spend leisure time. These historic, natural and cultural assets form part of the strategic and local green-blue infrastructure network, linking urban and rural communities as well as habitats. Our waterways are on the doorstep of 8 million people and reach some of the most deprived communities within the UK. By caring for our waterways and promoting their use we believe we can improve the wellbeing of our nation.  Come and be part of it.
