The Role
Working within an in in vivo laboratory environment the post holder will be responsible for performing experimental procedures to the highest level of care and welfare. The Animal Technician will assist and perform procedures for in vivo scientific studies for client and internal research in strict compliance with legislative, health & safety requirements and company SOP's/ Policies.
Main Duties include:
  • To perform experimental procedures in line with current regulatory and/or legislative requirements and to agreed company standards and productivity
  • To be fully competent in a range of in vivo techniques with basic skills (e.g. administration via common routes & reporting clinical signs) and assist in conducting experimental studies under direction of a Chief Animal Technician and Study Directors
  • Be proactive in gaining competency in more advanced in vivo techniques (e.g. use of anaesthetics including induction and monitoring)
  • To be responsible for appropriate record keeping and ensuring that the results of experiments are collected promptly and recorded accurately as per SOP's and to the required standard for legislative and scientific research purposes
  • To assist with general housekeeping of the in vivo unit such as cleaning, washing and maintenance of animal rooms
  • Prepare study paperwork and study materials prior to study start date
  • The position may involve other duties appropriate to the role
  • Displaying competency in a range of in vivo techniques from basic skills to more advanced e.g. Surgical Necropsy competencies
  • Knowledgeable about the work being undertaken and highly knowledgeable with the Home Office Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986
  • Act as an ambassador for the business and company values, communicate effectively with colleagues throughout the business, contribute to a culture of collaboration and teamwork

  • Minimum of 5 GCSE-level education is required inclusive of science related subject. A-Levels or BTEC National Diploma in Animal Care (or related area) are preferred, as would equivalent relevant work experience in a GLP Toxicology Environment
  • Personal Licensee Holder modules 1-3 (module 4 is desirable)
  • Willing to relocate to Dundee or surrounding area.
