This new opportunity will appeal to graduate qualified professionals on an upward trajectory in their career who aspire to be General Managers. Our client is a long established and highly respected company which manufactures, supplies and services heavy electrical machinery and equipment used primarily in the power generation and heavy process sectors. Part of a significant group it has a long history and an international reputation for its products and services. A key element of the business is its service, repair and maintenance business which operates through a network of local service centres throughout the UK.
These individual standalone businesses provide repair and refurbishment services to clients in their region either on customer sites or at the branch location depending on the scale and complexity. Given the client’s heritage in this sector it offers an unrivalled product knowledge and service capability which also extends to other equipment that has been supplied by other manufacturers and there is substantial scope for each business unit to grow in their region. As part of a succession planning strategy and building for the future it would like to appoint an Assistant General Manager in Derby. Each business typically has a turnover of c £7m and a headcount of around 40/50 and the local General Manager is P&L accountable. As a newly appointed Assistant General Manager you will be expected to support the existing GM’s activity, progressively learning the business, establishing contacts and ultimately taking over as GM in the very near future.
In this sense this role represents a rare opportunity to springboard yourself into general management. You will need to be a graduate with an engineering services or operational background and also have experience of project delivery in similar or related sectors. Product experience of potential interest includes motors , generators, pumps, compressed air solutions and gear boxes and sectors are many and varied such as oil and gas, power generation, marine, defence, mining, water and metals to name some. You will have strength in leading a skilled mobile service and repair workforce and be a self-starter with a can-do attitude. In addition to the training and support you will be given, there is also an attractive salary and benefits package which includes a car allowance plus a strong bonus opportunity; you will be expected to live within a reasonable commute of Derby.
