Are you looking for a new opportunity to start in September 2019? They are currently seeking Learning Support Mentors to join their Learning Skills and Development Service Department based at their Salisbury campus on a full time or part time, term time only + 2 weeks basis.

The main purpose of this role is to enable learners with high needs and declared support needs to access learning and college facilities, aiding retention and achievement of high needs funded students and for students with a declared need who are not high needs funded. Within this role, your main responsibilities will include providing educational support, personal care and mentoring support for learners with support needs (including literacy and numeracy difficulties, profound, moderate and specific learning difficulties, social and communication difficulties, disabilities and mental health, emotional and behavioural difficulties). You will work under the direction and supervision of qualified Lecturers or Tutors to support students and Learning & Skills Development Service Colleagues with managing their health and wellbeing including the administration of emergency medication. You will also be expected to facilitate the independence and safety of individual and groups of learners moving around the campus; assist the class tutor or teacher with keeping student records (RARPA, SMART targets, LSDS audit records) and assist in feedback and monitoring the effectiveness of the services provided for individual learners through joint planning and collaborative working with teaching staff.

The successful candidate will hold both a Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 (GCSE A-C) and have worked within a similar role previously. They will also hold or be willing to work towards a relevant Level 3 or equivalent qualification in supporting learners with additional or complex needs and will ideally hold teaching, caring or coaching qualification with Makaton or British Sign Language qualifications being advantageous. You will have experience of supporting individuals to meet agreed objectives and milestones along with evidence of your experience of exchanging information and supporting colleagues. You will be experienced in supporting young people and adults with profound and moderate learning difficulties. Experience of supporting wheelchair users and supporting individuals with personal care would be advantageous.
