Summary
There is no other organisation like the National Trust. We put such emphasis on our team of internal consultants, working regionally and nationally to deliver the best advice and support to our properties as possible, while developing our wealth of talent, expertise and insight. Our Consultancy Managers play a critical part in ensuring we are set up to meet our charitable purpose and preserve our special places, for ever for everyone.
These roles are part of a cohort of four Consultancy Managers, reporting to the Assistant Director, Consultancy, and leading teams of discipline specialists who partner and support properties and places within the Northern Ireland Region. The successful appointee will lead on the development of the appropriate short, medium and long term plans in collaboration with our property teams.
What it's like to work here
Working with a diverse range of consultants, you will manage their engagement in activities from the design and implementation of major restoration projects to developing visitor focussed projects to supporting region, property or operational activity across Northern Ireland.
This role is both a senior expert professional and a people management role. Consultancy Managers are responsible for leading and managing their teams, for helping properties to source the specialist expertise they need, and for using their own specific area of professional expertise and experience to help the National Trust to deliver its charitable purpose and aims.
What you'll be doing
As Consultancy Manager - Land and Nature, you will manage a team of consultants across such disciplines as Wildlife, Coast, GIS, Farming, Buildings, Rural Surveying and Estate Management, and Environmental practices. You will champion the conservation work within the Northern Ireland Region, managing this team and leading for our Land, Outdoors and Nature ambition. As with all our Consultancy Manager roles, you will forge strong and collaborative relationships with our 7 General Managers within the Region, acting as their 'go-to' person for support, guidance and advise on their Conservation activities both current and future.
Who we're looking for
You will bring energy, commitment and focus to our teams; understanding how to interpret national strategy and implement it at a country level. You will be innovative and creative in your thinking, able to use data and insight to create and communicate compelling narratives for change. Your leadership skills demonstrate how you deliver through building and developing exceptional teams.
Above all, you will be committed to our conservation agenda, what we stand for and what we want to achieve. The ideal candidate will have:
• A background in built and natural environment, delivering for conservation particularly land use management
• A proven track record and strategic approach to delivery of conservation objectives, including developing long term implementation plans
• Demonstrable experience of building strong, credible relationships across multiple sites, both internally and externally
• Excellent leadership and people management skills
• A proven track record of leading a high performing and professional team, to deliver measurable results
• Excellent communication, coaching and mentoring skills
• Strong influencing, negotiating and problem solving skills
• Demonstrable experience in the development and delivery of complex, multi-dimensional projects
• A relevant degree or demonstrable track record of equivalent applied knowledge
Benefits
Benefits include flexible working whenever possible plus free parking at most locations. You'll be entitled to discounts in high street stores and cinemas, National Trust shops and NT cafes, and have free entry to NT properties for you, a guest and your children (under 18).
Your health and wellbeing is important to us and is supported through generous annual leave and the option to buy additional days (minimum contract length applies), a cycle to work scheme, subsidised health cash plan and confidential access to a free support service 24 hours a day should you need it.
Your future financial health is helped by an employer matched - up to 10% of basic salary - contributory pension scheme and you can further your career with training and development tailored to you.
