Recruitment has opened for a 6-month paid Internship role with C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. The successful intern is expected to start in July 2019 and will be based in their London Office.

The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, now in its 14th year, connects 94 of the world's greatest cities which have committed to tackling climate change. We bring mayors from around the world together to learn from each other in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating resilient, sustainable and low carbon cities. C40 cities represent more than 700 million urban citizens and their economies account for 25% of the global GDP. C40's 'Deadline 2020' report sets out the critical role that the world's major cities have to play in delivering the historic Paris Agreement to prevent catastrophic climate change.

C40's team of 180+ staff is headquartered in New York, with offices in London, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Beijing and Paris and individual staff based across 25+ different locations. C40 is primarily funded through the generous support of philanthropic foundations.

C40 World Mayors Summit 2019:

The C40 World Mayors Summit is C40's flagship event, which will gather mayors from the world's leading cities alongside global influencers, business leaders, philanthropists, campaigners, scientists and citizens, to showcase and accelerate the most effective climate solutions being delivered in cities worldwide, and build a global coalition that rallies around the radical and ambitious climate action our planet needs.

The Summit will take place in Copenhagen, from the 9th - 12th October 2019 in the Tivoli Congress Centre. The Summit will gather around 1500 guests, including high-level government officials, mayors and climate leaders. The main summit will be supported by press events, a citizen summit as well as a series of in-depth masterclasses and side events.

The Role

The role will provide support to the C40 Head of C40 Mayors Summit 2019 and the summit team, specifically in scheduling, organising and preparing meetings and slides, managing the C40 Summit inbox and supporting the tracking of mayors and invitees and coordination with key stakeholders.

If selected, working a 40-hour week, s/he will have the opportunity to develop skills and understanding in a range of subject areas, gaining valuable experience working with international colleagues in a fast-paced and exciting global organization. The successful intern may, on occasion, be required to travel internationally. It is expected that the intern will be travelling to Copenhagen during the week of the Summit 9-12th October.

Responsibilities

* Support the core summit team meeting activities, creation of slides, concept notes and briefing packs. Creating agendas & taking notes for internal and external meetings;

* Manage the Summit inbox, making sure all incoming requests will be answered by the correct person, working alongside the summit event intern and professional conference organiser;

* Support the Executive Directors team in coordinating information for key stakeholders and speakers informed and briefed about summit outcomes, like declarations and research;

* Support in coordination and tracking of city outreach in relation to summit outcomes (e.g. joining declarations and stocktake report), liaising with the regional team;

* Coordinate with the regions team, support in tracking and collating information for the coordination of Mayor's schedules across plenary speaking slots, deep-dive sessions, press conferences, photo-ops and lunches;

* Coordinate external stakeholders side-event schedules and processes.

Person Specification

* Strong organisational skills - Excellent planning skills and well-organized approach to work with a delivery-oriented approach;

* Excellent attention to detail - with high-level proof-reading skills in English;

* Outstanding communication skills- English written and verbal with an ability to brief clearly and concisely;

* A natural collaborator - able to effectively manage own time, prioritise activities and accomplish tasks with minimal oversight;

* Ability to work pro-actively - to achieve efficiency and effectiveness as part of a diverse team;

* Highly competent with Microsoft Office software - (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Comfortable with technology, including web-based communications and spreadsheets. Keen to master new software and tools;

* Passionate about the mission of C40 and a strong interest in helping cities overcome their sustainability challenges and communicate their successes to a wider audience;

* Degree level of education, preferably focused on public policy - and preferably an advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
