The Group Finance team

The Group Finance team is responsible for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities for the UK business in a way that supports delivery of the business strategy. Guided by our values, the team will provide an excellent business partnering service to our senior leaders that will help them to meet and exceed the needs of our customers. We have a big challenge ahead of us to do this and the Group Finance team, working really closely with the business, will play a critical role and bring expertise to shape, and ultimately ensure, we achieve our purpose and deliver our vision. Working in conjunction with the Groups business units, the role allows significant exposure across the Group and offers scope for further career progression. The role is therefore dynamic and capable of being stretched by the right applicant with an appetite to work proactively.

The role

The Group IT Finance Business Partner will be a key member of the Group Finance team and work very closely with the IT function. They will provide an excellent level of finance business partnering activities for IT function that itself plays a key role in transforming the Group in line with the wider business strategy and vision. They will also provide finance support at both strategic and operational level for IT activity in line with the ambitious growth plans of the Group. They will partner with leaders both within Group Finance, the IT function and the business units to ensure a joined up approach is taken that leads to successful outcomes of key projects and initiatives.

Examples of what you will be doing:

  • Provide a high level of financial support to routine contractual commitments and key strategic IT projects and programmes across the business throughout their lifecycle, to ensure successful outcomes are achieved in line with the Group strategy
  • Produce timely and accurate financial information, presented coherently and providing investigations and analysis to chief information officer to facilitate decision making in relation to key projects
  • Involvement in annual business planning and budgeting activities for the IT function, whilst ensuring that operational plans and financial aspects relating to the Groups strategy are factored in
  • Manage the financial relationship, and associated information flows, with the Groups external (outsourced) IT partner
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the chief information officer, providing valued and effective guidance for all financial activities relating to routine contractual commitments and key IT projects
  • Provide an invaluable link between the Group Finance and IT function and the business unit finance teams to ensure IT projects are aligned with divisional business initiatives and strategies
  • Responsible for helping to ensure IT accounting is effectively integrated into the business - from inception through to integration - by providing an excellent level of finance support to business unit finance teams to ensure they understand and can actively control their IT costs and forecast accurately
  • Work closely with other members of the Group Finance Team to ensure a consistent approach is taken to ensure compliance and control in relation to financial activities at all times that is aligned with the Group strategy and values
  • Work in partnership with finance directors and their teams to identify and share best practice and to enhance effective delivery of IT related financial activities to the business
  • Work in partnership with wider business and enabling teams to identify synergies and share best practice, skills, resources, insights and feedback geared towards creating a One Countrywide feel for our customers and colleagues

  • Wider IT outsource contract and specific projects are successfully delivered as a result of accurate budgeting, cashflow forecasting and effective stewardship of financial controls

Experience you have that will set you up for success:

  • Finance expertise within an IT function, with proven success in finance project roles in fast paced and complex businesses
  • Experience of both partnering with and influencing senior managers, whilst also skilfully coaching and guiding others through complex and challenging financial issues
  • Ability to communicate financial information effectively, to both finance and non-finance colleagues
  • You will be motivated and enjoy working autonomously and have effective project management skills to ensure deadlines and conflicting priorities are managed but
  • You will also enjoy working as part of an open and friendly team, with demonstrable experience of commitment to delivery of wider team goals and getting hands-on under pressure
  • You will have thrived in dynamic environments, challenging the status quo and recommending improvements to existing practices

Other helpful things to know:

  • This role reports to Group Financial Controller with matrix reporting to the Groups Chief Information Officer
  • This role will be based in Chelmsford, with regular travel to Aldgate, and occasional travel to Milton Keynes, to liaise with the Group IT team
  • You will have a recognised financial qualification (fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA) and at least two years post qualification experience in industry, ideally working with outsourced providers
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills will be an advantage, as would experience of Access Dimensions or TM1 (although the letter two would not be essential)
  • You will have working relationships with: Chief Information Officer, Group Financial Controller, Chief Financial Officer, Group Finance team, all business unit finance teams, other enabling teams and external partners (including outsource finance and accounting teams (based in India) processing transactional activity and outsource IT partner
