Our Client; a truly global leader in the manufacture of Specialist Vehicles and Survivability systems are experiencing enormous growth with some new fantastic projects on the go in the Defence and Military sectors. It is for this reason that we have been tasked with finding an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic hands-on Vehicle Engineering Design Group Manager to join the team as soon as possible on a permanent basis. The remuneration is, to an extent, negotiable and will be based upon relevant experience, plus a full and comprehensive benefits package, together with bonus.
In light of significant new projects, the business is growing its engineering and project capability moving towards a combined 'Product Development' business unit. Change is in the air for our Client; as a result, this opportunity will play a significant part in the introduction of a new structure. The restructure has created an opportunity for a new Manager with strong up-to-date hands-on Design Engineering skills to join the team and take my Client to the next level in terms of their design capabilities. The Engineering Design team is responsible for all system design, release and sign off for Defence Vehicle Systems. Working in a matrix structure the team will ensure robust engineering principles are followed to ensure 'Engineering Excellence' is embedded into company Products.
The Engineering Design Group Manager will be responsible for the growth and development of the capability and capacity of the team to ensure they are fit to deliver their products. The scope of the role is broad and as such, the first line of the team is expected to be the SME's to provide the depth of capability in their core engineering competencies. You will be required to develop a scalable team with robust outsourcing capability to enable business and project flexibility.
A self-motivated, flexible and highly competent Design Engineering Manager or highly capable multi-disciplined Principal Engineer will thrive in this role. Someone who is capable of putting their stamp on a business that is growing; be an ambassador and implementer of change. You will be accountable for growing and developing your team. The team will be accountable for delivery of systems, components and vehicles to achieve all project KPI's.
Preferred Qualifications
* -Degree / Masters level (or equivalent) in a Vehicle engineering / Automotive discipline.
Experience/Knowledge ideally required:
* -Should be an experienced Design Engineering Manager and/or Principal Engineer who has worked within the Automotive, Defence Vehicle and/or Military manufacturing sectors.
* -You will be experienced in, and passionate about Design Engineering; we are not just looking for an inspirational team leader, but more so someone who is still very hands-on and up-to-date with their design skills, that has personally been involved in designing similar products each step of the way!
* -You will have strong experience in all or some of; Body Structures, Chassis & Electrical integration, Interiors, Defence & Survivability systems.
* -You will offer strong new product development experience from Pre-Bid, Concept through to series Manufacture.
* -A Low & Medium Volume vehicle background would be a real advantage.
* -You will be conversant with 'Engineering tools' such DFMEA's, GD & T, DFM, DFA.
* -You will display good people management capabilities, can lead a team.
* -You will be experienced dealing with Senior and sometimes challenging individuals.
* -Can demonstrate effective change management and process creation / Implementation.
* -Experience in engagement & management of engineering outsourcing deliverables-based contracts.
* -Should be flexible and prepared to travel within the UK and internationally as required.
