Your new company

Staffordshire University is a great place to work. We care about our people. We reward hard work. We also celebrate diversity and individual success. And although our history dates back over 100 years, you'll find that we are progressive and forward thinking.

Staffordshire University are transforming its campus to become a vibrant and welcoming place to work, study, live and visit. We are currently developing a new exciting masterplan that will reflect our 2030 strategic vision to become a leading digital university that includes a number of exiting projects such as our new GBP40m catalyst building. To help deliver this ambition the Estates team need to recruit a Maintenance Painter and Decorator.

Your new role

As part of the Estates Maintenance Team, you will be responsible for providing a painting and decorating service to the University. This will include completing general maintenance and other operations as required for the effective and efficient running of the campus.

Within this role, you will carry out all aspects of painting and decorating internally and externally including the safe use of ladders, mobile access towers and hydraulic lift equipment for working at height.
Identification of maintenance repairs, new jobs and planning of work also falls within this remit, as does identifying preparing and decorating internal and external elements of the building which may include the use of paint, papers and other decorative finishes.

Alongside this, you will liaise with contractors and other trades people on site in the performance of their duties, order and control trade related materials and ensure all records are kept up to date in accordance with current legislation and within University guidelines.

Reporting in to the Maintenance Team Leader, you will be allocated routine maintenance tasks and report any remedial actions as per the internal processes. You will also be responsible for undertaking audits of and the recording and storage of statutory and legislative checks, ensuring that recognised control procedures and practises are maintained.

Hours of work are 37 hours per week, over a 7-day week on a shift basis. You will be required to work on an agreed shift pattern including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

What you'll need to succeed

Experience Required

You will have City & Guilds in Painting and Decorating or equivalent, and at least three years previous practical experience in a similar role. PASMA and IPAF would also be advantageous. Although you will be predominantly based at the Stoke on Trent campus, travel to Stafford will be required, so a full UK driving license is essential.

About You

In order to be a successful applicant, you will have proven previous experience delivering reactive, first fix maintenance role, have demonstrable experience in use of computerised systems alongside the proven ability to work unsupervised.

Finally, you will be willing to undertake further professional development and demonstrate the ability to weigh up priority and benefits of different actions and activities in order to achieve cost effective outcomes.
