AMBERLEY MUSEUM
VOLUNTEER CO-ORDINATOR
25 - 30 HOURS PER WEEK (SOME WEEKEND WORKING)
TEMPORARY CONTRACT (2 YEARS)
Amberley Museum is recruiting a Volunteer Co-Ordinator. The Museum is dedicated to showcasing and preserving the industrial heritage of the South of England and has a vast range of outdoor and indoor exhibits on its 36 acre site in a chalk quarry in the South Downs National Park. Volunteers are the life-blood of Amberley Museum; up to 200 come in on a regular basis to demonstrate and operate our approximately 20 exhibit areas.
We have received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund for a part-time Volunteer Co-Ordinator for two years as part of its Reaching Communities programme . The post holder will develop and run an out-reach programme in the local community in order to recruit more Volunteers from socially isolated backgrounds, specifically men over 65 years old, who may not have volunteered before. This will involve pro-actively developing relationships with local organisations such as County and District Councils, Parish Councils, voluntary organisations, retirement homes and charities. Improving the profile and awareness of what the volunteering at the Museum contributes to the local community is an important element of the programme. It is intended that this will become a pioneering programme for other charities to follow. In addition, the post holder will engage with our existing volunteers to ensure an inclusive and satisfying volunteer experience for all.
The successful candidate will engage with our existing Volunteers to learn about the environment in which the new volunteers will operate and will be able to develop and deliver the outreach programme (with some support from other staff and Trustees). A confident speaker and presenter, the successful candidate will have experience of successfully working with volunteers, as well as proven analytical and reporting capability. Experience in elderly social care is desirable. The post holder will be able to work as part of a small team, proactively manage their own work and have an ability to think creatively. Previous experience in the heritage/voluntary sector would be an advantage.
Access to transport is necessary as a significant part of the role will be undertaking visits in the Sussex region, including areas where public transport may be minimal (a mileage allowance will be paid).
If you are interested in this position please submit a covering letter of no more than two sides which addresses how you best meet the needs of the role, along with your CV.
