Summary:
As an Account Director, you will be responsible for the day to day direction of the account, checking that it is on track both in terms of delivery but also in terms of future planning. You will understand the commercial realities of the business the client is in and spot opportunities to develop the agency’s role. Through building strong client relationships, you will create an environment where the best work can flourish, ensuring clear and timely briefings from the client and the right resources from inside the agency. Additionally, you will create a supportive environment for your reports (Account Executives and Account Managers), helping them to find solutions and resolve issues, coaching and mentoring them. You will be an ambassador for the agency both internally and externally.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the account team by example, ensuring the perfect execution of ideas on time, every time
- Communicate a clear sense of what everyone on the account needs to do, by when and why
- Ensure clear briefs and reasonable timings are given by the client, challenging appropriately where necessary, and actively encouraging new ways of working to improve processes and raise the client’s ambitions creatively
- Be the voice of the client inside the agency and he voice of the agency with the client, actively managing expectations and building strong working relationships
- Plan ahead to overcome future problems before they occur and help to motivate the wider team through tricky times
- Understand the perspectives and concerns of the different departments and experts in the agency and reconcile any opposing views
- Have a tight grip on the finance of the account - ensure financial rigour, accurate forecasting and reporting
- Lead conversations and negotiations with clients regarding project costs, questioning estimations and scopes of work
- Be creatively passionate, championing and protecting the creative work and keep up to date with what’s best in class and innovation across the industry
- Utilise your solid knowledge of the necessary technical know-how and craft skills associated with the relevant channels in which they work and understanding the when to engage the experts
Required Skills and Experience:
- Educated to degree level in an Advertising or Communications degree
- 5+ years of experience in Account Management roles, including previous experience working at an Account Director level, within a large, leading creative advertising agency
- Experience working on large, house-hold name brands, within the sports or alcohol categories
- Experience working on Cannes or IPA award winning campaigns
- Experience working on pitches
- Experience managing budgets in excess of £1 million
- Have a sophisticated point of view on advertising strategy and creativity, possibly demonstrated by having worked on award-winning work
- Have a strong financial/commercial understanding, possibly demonstrated by having attended relevant training courses
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritise effectively
- Experience of negotiating and seeking out appropriate growth opportunities with clients
- Experience of mentoring and developing junior members of the team
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Flexible and adaptable approach, and ability to resolve issues quickly
- Confident, with the gravitas and sensitivity to lead effectively
- Excellent at building relationships
- Experience in another market, other than the UK, is desirable but not essential
