The Role
Lendinvest has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Regulated Bridging Underwriter to join the Lending Operations team. We are looking for a regulated Underwriter to help establish the product and create an amazing new team. You would be working in a dynamic and fast paced environment and report into the Bridging Underwriting Manager.
The Underwriter has full responsibility for the assessment and approval of all regulated bridging loans for personal homebuyers. Knowledge of unregulated bridging with the ability to underwrite residential/commercial applications is not required but would be beneficial.
As an Underwriter you will be responsible for underwriting loans from enquiry stage through to completion. You will be required to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the regulated mortgage industry (MCOB) and the cultures that sit behind it ie Conduct & TCF as well as experience of assessing the credit risk on borrower applications, reviewing valuations and working through the legal process. You will be responsible for rationalising your decisions and assisting with making commercial decisions to ensure cases complete quickly whilst following the Lendinvest Lending Policy and providing positive outcomes for the customer.
This role would suit someone who is used to working under pressure and who interacts well with the rest of the team to ensure that both your own and the team's SLA's are achieved.
What you'll be doing
- Leading a small team to establish the appropriate regulated underwriting/processing operating model
- Recommend changes to lending policy as appropriate
- Ensure cases are offered within a timely fashion from receipt of application
- Demonstrate an excellent knowledge of Lendinvest Lending and the Financial Crime Policies
- Deal with initial broker/BDM leads according to the defined SLA
- Deal with initial case assessments/DIPs according to the defined SLA
- Full case approval/underwriting according to SLA including lending rationale that ensures lending decision is clear without recourse to the underwriter
- Deal with other ad hoc tasks to ensure swift processing of cases
- Liaise with borrowers/brokers throughout the process to ensure understanding and prompt responses
- Partner closely with solicitors and valuers in support of the Case Manager
- Ensure a high standard of service / communication when liaising with borrowers or brokers by telephone, email and letter
- Supporting and developing Case Manager skills and knowledge
- Other duties and projects that may be requested by the Underwriting Manager, Director of Credit or CCRO from time to time
What we need you to have
- Good understanding of the residential mortgage regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
- Good knowledge of regulated lending (MCOB, Perg etc))
- Strong understanding of Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) and Conduct Risk and ensuring both principles are key cultural aspects of how the job holder works
- Previous experience of working as a regulated Underwriter
- Ability to make quality lending judgements and articulate them fully.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent numeracy and ability to identify risks at an early stage
- Capable and experienced of dealing with a high volume workflow and prioritising accordingly
- Demonstrate a good understanding of:
- Credit Referencing Agency reports (personal and commercial)
- KYC/AML/financial crime regulation
- Application scoring
- CIFAS/SIRA
- Land Registry Reports
- RICS Valuations
