Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.
About the role Surrey County Council is undergoing a period of significant change. In the context of shifting resident demands, the increasing need to deliver value for money and our ambition to be a leading council we need to rethink and reassess how we provide services.
In order to achieve this we have embarked upon a massive transformation programme which consists of a number of key projects that are critical to the future success and financial stability of the council. We therefore require strong project managers to drive the delivery of these projects and ensure they are delivered on time and to budget.
Our transformation projects are taking place across all of our directorates and are varied in terms of their subject matter and end goals. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, Children's Services, Adult Social Care, Highways and IT & Digital. Therefore we are not necessarily looking for a subject matter expert; if you are a professional project manager who relishes a challenge, then we want to hear from you!
The project manager role will require you to co-ordinate, oversee and manage a project in its entirety, ensuring that it is delivered on time and to budget. Work streams within the project may include IT & digital, new ways of working (including true mobile working), reshaping teams, income generation and critically, communications and stakeholder engagement.
We are therefore looking for people who are organised, analytical, have excellent communication skills, experience working with a broad range of stakeholders and who are not afraid to challenge the status quo.
This particular role is to manage projects within our Community Protection, Transport & Environment directorate. However a flexible approach will be required as the ideal candidate will be expected to manage projects in other areas depending on the priorities of the business. Experience and/or knowledge of projects in community protection, transport & environment would be helpful but not essential.
