Citizens Advice Torridge, North, Mid & West Devon is a Devon-based advisory service that helps members of the public to understand, face, and deal with problems they may be experiencing.
Every year thousands of people come to us for advice and help with all manner of problems, from managing debt and household bills, to welfare and benefits.
Last year, we helped 17,621 clients across North, Torridge Mid and West Devon. We are now looking for someone who has experience in giving advice to clients and is willing to be trained to provide debt advice to join us in a full time role at any of our offices in Barnstaple, Bideford, Tavistock, Okehampton or Tiverton. This is a contract lasting until March 2020 but we aim to find future funding.

This is the ideal role for someone with experience in giving debt advice, however on the job training will be provided as required.

As a Debt Support Advisor, you will be trained to provide accurate and helpful debt advice to members of the public.
Specifically, you will assess needs and provide one-off debt advice or a casework service through a mixture of channels and in collaboration with partner agencies. Once trained You will provide assistance in areas such as bankruptcy, Debt Relief Orders, challenging liability, court processes, and financial capability.
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A good understanding, experience or a willingness to train in the processes of dealing with advice giving
- Knowledge or the willingness to learn the different types of debt and the options available to people
Experience of working with people with mental health issues, or people with disabilities would be beneficial to your application. Advice work experience would also be advantageous, as would a money advice qualification such as CMAP (or the willingness to undertake any necessary training to achieve it).
The willingness to undertake any necessary training to achieve Debt Relief Order intermediary Status (DROI) status would be equally desirable.
