Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is a unitary authority based in the heart of the town centre offering traditional seaside living that makes it a great place to live and work. The Council have a rare opportunity for a Senior Practitioner/Practice Leader within the Southend Adult Community Mental Health Service on a two year fixed term basis.

Your new role

The purpose of this role will be to provide professional and comprehensive social care casework to a caseload of individuals with severe and enduring mental health difficulties, some of which will be complex and sensitive cases all will require the highest of professional standards and in depth knowledge of relevant legislation and practice methods. You will also be required to undertake practice and professional Lead responsibility for a specified area of Social Care in the day to day running of the team including supervision of identified team members. The successful candidate will need to use a strengths-based approach to social work practice and will work closely with all partners across Health and Social Care to ensure that there is effective coordination of interdependences including the management of and resolution of risks and other issues that may arise.

What you'll need to succeed

In order to succeed in this role you must be a qualified social worker who has strong management skills and multi-disciplinary Social Care experience within multi-disciplinary team and working with people who have mental health difficulties. You will need to demonstrate your experience of working with cases of people with severe and enduring mental health needs, complex social care needs, section 117 needs, complex safeguarding issues. Additional experience of working with safeguarding policies, procedures, and best practices is essential as it the need for experience of accessing Self-Directed-Support (SDS) packages for people with mental health needs and carers.
