Job Purpose of the Quality Manager:

This position is responsible for providing strategic direction on all aspects of quality assurance for the business / site ensuring all business and customer expectations are met. Through tactical and systemic action plans / activities ensure all aspects of design, manufacturing, test and shipments controls are fulfilled to protect the end customer against a sub-standard product. Organise and manage pro-active and reactive activities within expected timeframes in response to customer, in plant or supplier concerns.

Direct Reports: Senior Quality Engineers, Quality Engineers, Quality Technicians, Diagnostics Supervisor, Diagnostics, SQA Manager, SQA Engineers

Summary of Main Duties & Responsibilities of the Quality Manager:

* Supervision of 3 direct reports and 40 indirect providing direction and strong leadership

* Responsible for their motivation, training, personal development, setting of objectives and reporting

* Co-ordination of department activities / allocate resource & prioritise workload

* Management of the customers across all levels and regions with particular focus on the introduction of new practices and procedures to improve feedback and control of both 0km and warranty returns to enable effective and timely activities to be implemented

* Ensuring through procedures and tactical work plans are presented with the best position to protect itself against customer cost of quality recovery actions

* Management of APQP programmes from design concept through to volume introduction into production, covering the full supply chain from sub suppliers through to VM level customers

* Managing supplier performance and component quality issues through to closure via effective data analysis to establish root cause and appropriate corrective action plans

* Establish and manage supplier improvement programmes for underperforming suppliers and key suppliers who have a fundamental impact on business performance targets such as customer delivered quality levels

* Monitor and verify production processes, developing opportunities to improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency and reduction in rejection / scrap levels

* Provide technical support to all areas of the production process interfacing with other functional groups as required

* Manage all elements of the Quality Management System including liaising with external accreditation bodies

* Produce / contribute to the sites strategic action plans for items that influence Quality performance measures.

* Be the first point of contact with respect to any customer concern. Act as co-ordinator between all functional areas including off site Design Engineering, to initiate containment and / or corrective actions within a 48 hours time period

* Instigate regular customer review meetings to promote a pro-active working relationship

* Provide coaching and mentoring to staff at differing levels

* Ensuring customer APQP / PPAP / PSW submissions within programme requirements

* Ensuring process alignment and internal improvement activities

* Assisting with new product introductions including Run At Rate

* Championing problem solving activities including 8D, Ishikawa, 5Why etc

* Managing the warranty process for the site

* Individual/Team Development

* Exercise high standards of H & S at all times, including Environmental Safety Awareness, and establishing a positive health, safety and environmental culture across the facility

* To contribute as a member of the Management Team with the aim of reducing overheads and work within the budgetary allocation for the Maintenance Department

* To undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the Company

* To be available for "call out" in the case of emergency

Education / Qualifications Required of the Quality Manager:

* Minimum of HNC/HND Standard or equivalent in Electrical / Electronic or Mech. Engineering

* Ideally Six Sigma Black / Green Belt accredited

* Ideally German speaker but not essential

Experience Required of the Quality Manager:

* APQP / Process FMEA / PPAP/ PSW and New Product introduction knowledge

* Must have previous experience of working in a 1st tier automotive or electronic manufacturing environment

* IATF 16949; VDA6 knowledge
