dunnhumby is looking for a talented Lead Engineer!

You will, as an expert for one or more areas of engineering, deliver on the development and deployment of highly complex technology products and/or platforms and inspire others around it.

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop and deploy complex applications, components, software, platforms or services that are used at scale and contribute to significant performance or business value (e.g. core components that are used across teams, POCs,...).
  • Lead on new solutions. Gather input, feedback and requirements from key stakeholders within Engineering and Product Management and define the platform/ component roadmap for specific projects. Influence the team software architecture as required.
  • Lead exciting and complex end-to-end projects and ensure Service Level Agreements are delivered on. Define and develop solutions to complex problems that arise ensuring standards are fully met and best practice is adhered to.
  • Inspire engineers throughout the organisation, providing deep expertise, thought leadership, expert advice and guidance to resolve specific challenges.
  • Create clear standards, tools and technical guidelines in line with the department's strategy, policies and client obligations.
  • Manage internal and external technical stakeholders including product owners, commercial and business stakeholders and product consumers.
  • Lead projects to improve engineering, test and operational excellence.


What you'll need:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Maths or Engineering or equivalent
  • Good experience in the relevant area of expertise
  • Software development (agile)
  • Software testing tools (e.g. Protractor, Selenium)
  • Product management (Agile)
  • Data Architecture & Modelling
  • Cloud infrastructure, management and hosting
  • Code management tools (Git)
  • Infrastructure as code / DevOps (Kubernetes)
  • Distributed Architecture
  • Asynchroneous computing
  • Proficiency in at least two of the below:
  • Scala
  • C (# / ) / .NET
  • Java Script / React
  • Python
  • Hadoop / HDFS
  • Airflow
  • Linux
  • D
  • PHP
  • Industry Trends / Thought Leadership


  • A plus if you also have:

  • Experience with projects of great technological complexity
