They are a specialist residential children’s homes which caters for children and young people with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs. They are now looking to recruit a number of residential staff to work within their children’s specialist short break services based in Romiley & Cheadle, Stockport
We are recruiting for Support Workers to work day time shifts between the hours of 0700hrs – 2200hrs and have full time and part time contracts available.
As a Residential Support Worker…
You will support children aged from 5 to 18 years of age, being a positive and supportive role model. You will encourage young people to develop confidence, self-esteem and essential life skills. As part of the team, you will work hard to empower our young people, help them break through barriers and experience a range of varied opportunities and activities.
As a Residential Support Worker, you will plan activities for the young people to be involved in, their aim is to give the young people they support within their short break homes the opportunity to experience new and fun adventures or that they may not always be able to engage in regularly whilst at home. They also support young people to engage in therapy & sensory sessions which are bespoke and enjoyable.
Residential Support Workers will be actively involved working closely with families and other professionals around the children we support including education staff, healthcare professionals and attending healthcare appointments. You will communicate effectively with parents and carers, be responsible for administration of medication, daily reporting and personal care within morning and evening routines. A number of the young people we support may need assistance with all aspects of personal care, such as bathing and toileting, getting dressed. Some others require encouragement and support to be able to become more independent.
Also, a number of the young people they support have complex health needs this may mean they need support with feeding and drinking via a gastrostomy site rather than orally, others may require oral suction or Oxygen therapy. Others may have high levels of autism and therefore require greater level of understanding and patience. They have clear plans and guidelines which are regularly reviewed by the relevant professionals.
Importantly, you will provide a fun and nurturing environment at all times and be able to manage challenging situations and behaviour with the support of your team and regular training.
You are caring, passionate, positive, professional and supportive – looking to make a real difference in children and young people’s lives. Experience is preferable but is not essential. What’s more important is the desire for a challenging and rewarding role and a genuine interest in developing your skills through the training they offer. As their teams provide 24/7 support, you will need to be flexible and willing to work shifts over a 7 day week. We also ask that you are willing to complete QCF Level 3 in Caring for Young People within a residential setting if you do not already hold this or an equivalent qualification.
