Internal Auditor

Due to growth we are currently looking for an Internal Auditor to join our Risk and Best Practice team. This is a full time, permanent role based in our Newcastle office.

About the role

As an Internal Auditor you'll work within our wider Risk and Best Practice team. The team ensures we meet our regulatory obligations, comply with our service standards and procedures and manage our risk. Please be aware this is not a finance related role.

The role will see you conducting internal audits to assess and provide independent assurance that the firm's risk management, governance and internal control processes are operating effectively. You'll be planning and organising your own work, reporting on your findings (verbal and written), making recommendations, and providing guidance on all things risk and regulatory. Interpersonal skills are key for this role as you will build and manage relationships with a variety of people across our firm at all levels. You will also need to be able to operate audit software and computer systems efficiently and effectively.

This is a really fantastic role where you'll be able to support the achievement of the internal audit and wider risk and compliance team objectives, targets and plans.

Who will I work with?

As Internal Auditor you'll be part of the wider team and report in to Alan, the Head of Risk Management and Claire, the Internal Audit Supervisor. You'll also work closely with our Partners, Lawyers, Directors, Managers through to Legal Secretaries and Support teams.

What qualifications and experience do I need?

We're looking for someone who has a technical background and previous compliance, risk or audit experience. Legal experience is advantageous however we're open to background and would consider someone who comes from professional services or a local authority.

You'll need to be a self-starter with a positive and motivated approach, professional at all times, supportive to colleagues and able to prioritise. You'll be a natural communicator with the ability to influence change. The role also requires an investigative ,inquisitive and analytical mind, high attention to detail and the ability to manipulate large amounts of data and compile clear and concise reports.

By the nature of the job, it is possible that situations involving conflict and/or differences in opinion will occur from time to time and you will need to be resilient, but diplomatic. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to use their initiative, who is self-motivated, enjoys a challenge and is passionate about audit, risk management and continuous improvement.
