PROCESS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

OLED / LCD / LED / SEMICONDUCTORS / OPTOELECTRONICS / III-V

BASED NORTH EAST ENGLAND - SEDGEFIELD - GBP35-55,000 AND BENEFITS

Headquartered in Manchester and with process, R+D and test support in Sedgefield North East England, ESS' client delivers world class 'organic' semiconductor materials for the manufacture of flexible displays and electronics for use in applications such as smartwatches, smartphones and tablets. The company provides customised solutions involving molecule synthesis, formulation, pre-production prototyping and technology transfer for market-driven applications.

Their R+D, Product and Process Applications teams are based in the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) in Sedgefield, and they now need to recruit a Process Development Engineer. This role will suit candidates with relevant industrial experience, and who have some semiconductor / wafer processing knowledge and skills - e.g. Photolithography, Etch and Depositions / Thin Films.

Reporting into the Process Engineering Manager, the Process Engineer or Process Technicians will join a highly developed engineering team. You will play a key role turning products from R+D into high volume produced devices. Candidates at all levels will support process development, solve yield and day to day process reliability issues, and work with colleagues in R+D, applications, device and product engineering. Other core responsibilities will include:

Definition, development and delivery of reproducible fabrication processes for O-TFT test device and demonstrator vehicles using semiconductor and display fabrication tools in a cleanroom environment, suitable for the transfer to large scale manufacturing facilities.
Working with the team to develop and maintain appropriate process control methodologies, understanding variability within the processes and reducing the variability to provide stable fabrication techniques.
Developing safety, operational and product flow operating procedures for the technicians which enables consistent manufacturing techniques to be applied.
Working with CPI engineers to improve existing and develop new processes in a collaborative but IP sensitive environment.
Contributing to technology transfer documentation and data packages to support materials sales and customer focused process development.
Educated to degree calibre in an engineering or scientific discipline (chemistry, Physics, Materials Science), you will have previous exposure to semiconductor / silicon, optoelectronic materials or LED/LCD/OLED processing. Experience of process modules like photolithography, wet/dry etch, PVD, CVD, PECVD, MOVCD, MBE or back end assembly would be a distinct advantage. Ideally, you are an experienced Process Development or Process Integration Engineer with a sound understanding of SPC, DOE and FMEA, otherwise you are looking for a route into this challenging and exciting industry in a professional capacity.

This is a superb opportunity to join a highly ambitious and forward thinking SME technology business totally changing how we will see things in the future. You can expect and excellent base salary (GBP35-55,000 dependent on experience), plus a comprehensive benefits package. However, you are probably more excited about being at the forefront of a technology revolution, and driving tomorrow's technology today.
