Working Hours: As required. Normal office hours are 09:30 to 17:30, Monday - Thursday, 09:30 to 17:00 Friday.

JOB SUMMARY
An aspect of our clients business involves developing customised merchandise (including toys, souvenirs and clothing) for various clients throughout the UK and Europe. We are seeking a passionate and highly driven team player who is a strategic thinker, highly organised and able to hit required deadlines. He/She must have a passion for the customers, brands and products and embody an entrepreneurial spirit. The Product Developer will work closely with the Product Development Manager to play a critical role in developing and help drive long term growth with current clients but also seek further opportunities to grow the business.
We require the successful applicant to use existing assets and character artwork to produce and create merchandise solutions and proposals for our clients. They only deal at source (Far East) so travel to China and Hong Kong is essential which will be outside of normal working hours. Working closely with factories directly to produce the best possible product. Through renders, photographs and in-person reviews, evaluate and refine works in progress, with an eye for fine detail.
The role includes a company laptop.
KEY TASKS
Responsibilities
Product Design - Research and design new product concepts from initial ideas to reskinned products featuring branded artwork for presenting to clients.
Product Development - Provide design briefs throughout all stages of development and production. Support day-to-day product development activities - design, costs, concepts, sampling, packaging, engineering, testing, budgeting and timelines.
Testing and Product Quality - Product quality and safety is something we take very seriously so a sound knowledge of product testing is required. Work with client's quality control requirements.
Far East - Visit trade shows in Hong Kong, China, Europe and other relevant destinations to ensure we are at the forefront of our industry. Work closely with the Product Development Manager and each factory to help produce each concept from idea to completion. Visit various factories in China to ensure conditions are suitable and all products are being manufactured in line with our agreed tolerances and product quality.
Innovation - Research and develop new product ideas with a suitable factory to include within product proposals to client.
Trade Shows - Represent our business at various trade shows, providing potential clients with product and business information.
Qualifications and Skills
• Ability to speak Mandarin (preferred but not essential).
• Methodical, organised and accurate with excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent oral and written English.
• Ability to negotiate.
• Develop and maintain successful working relationships.
• Good understanding of Microsoft Office.
• Able to present ideas and proposals to external and internal clients.
• High levels of customer service.
Character and Attitude
• Highly self-motivated and passionate about the industry.
• Able to work on own initiative.
• A creative outlook on merchandise solutions.
• Driven to achieve and develop through key objectives.
• Possess the ability to cope with pressure, tight deadlines and demanding
targets.
Experience
• Have experience dealing with Far East suppliers.
• Experience and knowledge of product testing and relevant standards for the UK.
• Knowledge of production methods and materials for best results.
• Proven track record in toys/gifts/promotional product development
