Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Environmental Health Officer on a 2 months contract with a possibility of an extension.

Purpose of the role -

To participate in the provision of the Local Authority investigation of Statutory Nuisances and associated Environmental Protection Team functions, including Housing Standards and Environmental Enforcement.

Duties/Responsibilities -

* To participate in the provision of the Local Authority investigation of Statutory Nuisances and associated Environmental Protection Team functions, including Housing Standards and Environmental Enforcement.

* Provide expert EH advice on Planning Applications and Licensing Consultations. In particular in relation to EP Pollution Control, Air Quality and Acoustics.

* To investigate complaints relating to statutory nuisance and Environmental Protection areas requiring EH public health intervention.

* To manage the installation, collection, analysis and feedback of evidence gathered by using the Environmental Protection Teams sound recording equipment.

* To maintain accurate records of the activities undertaken to address complaints on the Councils Uniform IDOX document management system / complaints database.

* To assist the Environmental Protection Principal Officers to provide a comprehensive Environmental Protection service.

* To work with partner organisations as required achieving the Team's objectives to improve the environment in Thurrock and increase the detection of and resolution of problems that impact on the environment and public health.

* To assist in creating and refining policies and procedures for the provision of Environmental Protection in Thurrock and Brentwood.

* To compile reports, statements and schedules etc for the consideration of managers and to be used in legal proceedings to enforce legislation within the teams area of responsibility.

* To be able to complete comprehensive prosecution files, witness statements and Interviews under Caution, in line with the Department's model prosecution file.

* To attend court or other such tribunals as a witness for the authority in legal actions relating to the work of the team.

Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications/Experience -

* Degree or Diploma In Environmental Health Or Equivalent

* BSc or Diploma in Environmental Health and be EHORB registered as an EHO

* Candidate must have knowledge of legislation, environmental and social responsibilities

* Good working knowledge of environmental law including a sound understanding of public health

* Experience in Investigating issues related to environmental crime

* Broad Knowledge & Legal Knowledge Of Environmental Health Enforcement Matters such as Domestic Noise Control
