Chief Engineer - Aerospace

Location: South Wales & Remote Working

Position Scope:
As a disruptive start-up our exclusive client seeks to deploy novel ways to design and manufacture a new generation of military training aircraft. The role is to build and lead the engineering group within the business that will work with its partners and suppliers to deliver fully certified aircraft designs on time, to specification and budget.

Responsibilities:
* Overall Design Signatory for the Aircraft
* Accountable for aircraft design and build processes, ensuring compliance with applicable certification requirements
* Building and managing the in-house engineering team including contractors
* Engineering liaison with risk sharing partner, core service supplier and strategic supplier teams
* Engineering co-ordination with in-house production, certification, requirements and safety groups
* Engineering liaison with customer organisations
* Engineering group budget control
* Overall Aircraft configuration control
* Aircraft documentation delivery and control
* Change control
* Engineering standards and quality control

Deliverable:
* Class leading aerospace design and engineering organisation (smart, efficient and agile)
* Aircraft designs to agreed specification (safety, performance, quality, supportability, price)
* Certification
* Efficient collaborative working structures with industrial partners and tier 1 suppliers
* Setting and maintaining company engineering standards
* Strict budget control
* Maximum exploitation of COTS hardware

Requirements:
* Chartered Engineer Status
* Considerable experience in leading aerospace design teams
* Previous design signatory
* Strong engineering design and integration skills
* A natural leader with good communication skills at all levels
* A considered, robust and inclusive management style
* Ability to identify and use disruptive technologies from other sectors
* Some experience in small companies or start-ups would be beneficial
* MBA or equivalent would be beneficial
* Fellow grade of PEI membership would be beneficial
