Electron beam Welding and Processing Engineer

Further your career as an Advanced Welding / Processing Engineer, working with electron beams and associated technologies. TWI is a leader in all welding, joining and materials engineering, research, development and consultancy; we deliver a wide range of advanced electron beam process technology and equipment solutions. The electron beam team is engaged in many projects for customers in Space, Aerospace, Power, Auto sports and Big-science developments. We work in support of industry, and also collaborate at a fundamental level, to develop new ways of working, processes and advanced equipment solutions, extending the useful application of high and low power electron beams in science and manufacturing. We work across welding, additive manufacture and surface engineering, often delivering solutions for the processing of challenging material and control of production integrity.

As a Project Leader at TWI you will have the opportunity to be autonomous as well as a team player. You will have control over day-to-day technical activities in delivery of desk, laboratory and, on occasion, site based projects, lead and contribute towards the work of interdisciplinary teams to find solutions to challenging technical problems with the possibility to have real impact on engineering, science and society issues.

The role offers progression opportunities in technology (research, development, consultancy and training), business development and networking, management and personal/professional development. TWI may support the successful candidate in further/higher education (MSc, PhD, EngD) and attainment of professional accreditation (Chartered Engineer, Membership/Fellowship) where mutual business benefits can be shown.

Experience in electron beam, laser or power beam processing/equipment, and engineering metallic materials is highly beneficial but not essential; the successful candidate may have different experiences in welding, joining, additive manufacture, surface engineering or materials science. A positive attitude towards team working and integration, learning and development is essential. Good communication and the ability to generate concise yet comprehensive technical documents (proposals, reports, and conference / journal papers) is required.
