Main Purpose and Scope of Job

The main purpose and scope of this role is to work on assembling numerous assemblies, including populating and / or reworking PCB assemblies as necessary and assembly of coaxial cables, connectors and electro-mechanical parts. For a suitable candidate, this role could expand later to include testing, mainly with the use of automated or semi-automated test equipment.

The Prototype Technician reports to the Production Director.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The principal duties and responsibilities of the Prototype Technician include:

* Soldering of components down to 0201 packages onto PCBs.

* Assembly, including coaxial cables and other electro-mechanical components, currently with the use of soldering irons and hot air soldering equipment, with the possibility of operating more automated equipment in the future.

* Ensuring safe and efficient operation of the assembly equipment including compliance

with all current health and safety legislation.

* Control and handling of localised stock of component parts and sub-assemblies and consumable items required to complete the assembly processes and highlighting where stocks are low in a timely manner so as not to allow the assembly process to be held up.

* Working with the Production Director to implement a continuous programme of improvement of the safety and efficiency of the assembly process.

Skills and Experience Required

In order to be able to successfully fulfil these responsibilities it is expected that the Prototype Technician will be strongly results orientated with an eye for detail and have good knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas:

* Extensive experience of working with small-scale package components.

* Extensive experience of working with a wide range of soldering equipment for both

* assembly and rework activities.

* Experience with basic test equipment and / or automated test equipment is desirable.

* Familiarity with current health and safety regulation with regard to the operation of soldering and assembly equipment.

* Good commercial awareness and recognition of the business goals of the company
