Making Space

Trustees

Making Space is an established registered national charity with an exciting future. We are developing an ambitious new strategy, and having recently refreshed our identity with a new brand and we are currently co-creating our vision with the people that we support. We would love to hear from people with a wide range of skills to support the Executive Management Team in their leadership roles. We would particularly like to hear from you if you have recent experience of delivering social care and health services; HR expertise; or property management and development. We certainly want to hear from people who share our values and want to help shape our future and the future services we provide for people with mental health problems, a learning disability or older people. Our mission is to provide high quality health and social care services that are innovative, responsive and flexible to each individual’s needs and choices. We do this by:

  • Providing care and support in people’s own homes to help with daily chores, personal care or getting out into the community and taking part in social and leisure activities.
  • Delivering specialised services for people who have serious a mental health illness or age-related illness such as dementia, whilst also providing essential support to their families.
  • Offering community based services through the organisation’s network of support workers and volunteers, Making Space can step in to give carers a much-needed break and enable them to find time in their own life for themselves.

We deliver services from Cumbria to Cambridgeshire and we are looking for committed people from across our geographical footprint to help us develop and deliver our strategy for 2020 to 2023. Trustees are expected to attend four board meetings each year as well as an annual strategy planning day. Board meetings are held in Warrington, Cheshire however we are currently improving our ability to maximise new technology and we are very happy for Trustees to attend some meetings via Skype.

There are many opportunities to contribute and be further involved as a Trustee. The organisation has two Independent Hospitals based in the North West and all Trustees are able to undertake duties as a Hospital Manager for the purposes of the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA). We provide full training and buddy system for this role and Trustees are supported by a full time employed Mental Health Law Manager. In addition, we co-produce an annual conference with the people we support and Trustees are welcome to join the planning group and attend the event. To support robust governance arrangements we also have a number of Trustee Lead roles who link with the Executive Leadership Team in order to facilitate reporting and assurance to the Board and provide Trustee support and guidance.

Trustee positions are unpaid, with expenses reimbursed.

To request further details in relation to terms of office and Board meeting arrangements, or if you would like to have a discussion with our CEO or a current Trustee please contact annette.taylor@makingspace.co.uk to make arrangements.

To apply for the position please submit your most recent CV along with a two page supporting statement outlining what skills and experience you have that can complement and strengthen our Board of Trustees. The closing date for applications is Friday 14th June 2019.
