Citizens Advice Torridge, North, Mid & West Devon is a Devon-based advisory service that helps members of the public to understand, face, and deal with problems they may be experiencing.
Every year thousands of people come to us for advice and help with all manner of problems, from managing debt and household bills, to welfare and benefits. Our unique position within the Devon community provides us with insight and an understanding of local needs like no other organisation.
We’re part of the Citizens Advice service, a network that spans the entire country and means we can share knowledge and best practice from the Lizard to the Lake District.
Last year, we helped 24,000 people across North, Mid and West Devon. We are now looking for a Money Advice Caseworker to join our Barnstaple office on a contract until March 2020 and help us continue to provide incredible services.

As a Money Advice Caseworker, you will be tasked with providing accurate and helpful money or debt advice to members of the public requiring support with their finances.
Specifically, you will assess needs and provide either one-off money or debt advice or a casework service through a mixture of channels and in collaboration with partner agencies. You will provide assistance in areas such as bankruptcy, Debt Relief Orders, challenging liability, court processes, financial capability and representation at court.
Your role will also involve:
- Providing service users with the ability to make informed decisions about their finances
- Offering service users detailed casework encompassing the full range of money advice
- Negotiating with third parties
- Acting for, or advising service users with other issues that are integral to their case
- Producing and validating accurate financial statements
- Maintaining case records
To be considered as a Money Advice Caseworker, you will need:
- Experience of providing finance and/or money-related advice in a similar or a customer facing role
- A good understanding and/or experience of the processes in dealing with legal advice giving
- Knowledge of the different types of debt and the options available to people
- An understanding of court processes required to represent clients with money advice issues at court
Experience of working with people with mental health issues, or people with disabilities would be beneficial to your application. Generalist advice work experience would also be advantageous, as would a money advice qualification such as CMAP (or the willingness to undertake any necessary training to achieve it).
The ability to act as an authorised DRO Intermediary or the willingness to undertake any necessary training to achieve DROI status would be equally desirable.
