Job Purpose

Essex is a diverse county with some of the highest levels of deprivation in the country through to highly affluent communities, which gives us a wide variance in life expectancy and quality. In support of the delivery of Inclusive Economic Growth, ECC's work on the skills system will aid increased employment rates in higher quality roles for Essex residents, demonstrate the benefits of Essex's strategic location to large employers and enable increased quality of life and wellbeing for residents.

This role aids the Economic Growth team to identify and support economic opportunities that impact positively on productivity, prosperity and innovation. The role develops and maintains engagement with key strategic economic partnerships, to support delivery of ECC's economic growth ambitions. The role works proactively with local businesses and business groups and offers secretariat support to the Essex Federated Board and supports engagement with the work of the South East Local Enterprise Partnership.

Accountabilities

• Support the delivery of plans to maintain and grow existing businesses through the engagement of ECC's partners and business stakeholders, helping existing Essex businesses to grow and attracting new businesses to locate in Essex, in support of the wider economic growth strategy.

• Support the co-ordination of engagement activity directly with businesses to enable the delivery of ECC's economic growth outcomes, including offering the secretariat support to the Essex Federated Board.

• Responsible for representing ECC on and working in partnership with, and providing appropriate support to, the County's sub regional economic partnerships in order to promote inclusive economic growth.

• Responsible for engaging key Essex employers through a coordinated approach across the Economic Growth team to promote the delivery of ECC economic growth outcomes.

• Responsible for identifying possible external funding sources and working with partner agencies to develop and submit appropriate funding applications.

• Responsible for providing advice, information and support relating to Economic Growth policies and programmes for Sector Development and Partnership working.

• Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Educated to degree level in a related discipline (e.g. economics, business, planning) or equivalent by experience.

• Evidence of continuing professional development and good knowledge in relevant professional area.

• Proven experience of working with businesses and partner organisations on economic development issues.

• Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills including the ability to work with a range of people to maximise outcomes for local people/businesses.

• Good understanding of the issues that confront private business across a range of sectors.

• Proven experience of delivering economic development projects.
