Mechanical Design Engineer - Airborne Avionics Systems
Our client is a highly successful global aerospace company, they are looking for a Mechanical Design Development Engineer to be responsible for the design and development of Antenna System products for use in demanding air, land and sea environments.
In this role you will be expected to be creative and innovative in the generation of concepts designs using 3D CAD and FEA simulation tools. Your responsibilities will include the generation of drawings and ERP data for both internal and external customers using approved procedures and processes.
To run design analysis software tools, for stress, drag and thermal modelling in support of designs
An exciting part of this role is that you will present proposals to senior management for new ideas and concepts that will improve designs and reduce costs.
To liaise as appropriate with any other discipline to enable timely completion of the set tasks to achieve a universally appreciated outcome.
We are looking for someone who is creative, understands the constraints of the airborne environment, has a very strong materials background including composites, adhesives and metallic and Design for Manufacture experience.
As the Mechanical Design Engineer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
* Experience working within the Aerospace/Airborne sector or a similar regulated industry.
* Experience of using 3D CAD packages, use of SolidWorks would be an advantage.
* An understanding of materials, treatments and finishes, and their environmental implications.
* Experience of the airborne environment
* A proven ability to support change within an organisation
* Experience with evaluating paint systems, composites and adhesives preferable - although not essential for right candidate.
* An understanding on aspects of mechanical engineering, including structural analysis. Experience of engineering product life cycle and development phases.
* Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Materials Engineering (alternatives considered)
* An understanding of how to extract technical requirements from generic roadmaps and identify where gaps apply.
* Knowledge of composite Design & manufacture (ideally GFRP)
* Hands on experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment
* Able to work as part of a team and as an individual
* Ability to read and understand Technical drawings/documents
* Innovative, creative, able to generate new ideas and concepts designs using 3D and FEA simulation tools.
As a Mechanical Engineer your main responsibilities will involve:
* Produce concept design and detailed drawings using 3D Cad packages ensuring solutions are fit for purpose and cost effective. Conceptual design of products and manufacturing techniques to support bids and initial project phases.
* Use FEA & CFD tools supported by hand calculations to stimulate mechanical behaviour
* Generate and amend drawings and documentation to appropriate standards including BS8888 & Def Stan, 05-10 and Bills of materials.
* Undertake tolerance analysis and designs including Geometric Dimensioning and tolerancing
* Investigate and define answers to design problems NCR's from manufacturing.
* Continuous improvement of processes and tools including support to corporate change initiatives.
* Evaluation of new materials, paints and report writing
* Preparation of test plans
* Review of technical documentation in support of development manufacture
