Kitchen Porter – Entry Level Opportunity
Polzeath, Cornwall

Are you enthusiastic, helpful and eager to work in an iconic pub in Polzeath? Could you thrive in a fast-paced kitchen where there is great training, support and the chance to develop a career in hospitality? If so, read on.

Who will I be working for?

We are St Austell Brewery, a family-owned, independent business that is passionate about great food and drink and delivering the very best to our customers. We produce award-winning beers and have pubs and hotels across the South West, from Bath and Bristol, to the Isles of Scilly.

Situated in Polzeath, a renowned surfing destination on the North Cornwall coast, the Oystercatcher offers self-catering accommodation and local pub food. We’re now looking for a Kitchen Porter to join our newly refurbished pub, the Oystercatcher, overlooking beautiful Polzeath beach.

What will I get in return?

- Salary of up to £12 per hour DOE
- 30% off food and drink in managed houses and 50% off accommodation from your first day
- Pension scheme
- Excellent training (many of our managers started off in entry level roles)
- Employee reward programme – if you provide a fantastic service, we’ll make sure it’s recognised
- Join a business that supports local charities, good causes and individuals in need
- Cycle to work scheme

As well as these amazing benefits, we’ll provide you with the help you need to make a success of your role. There’s great training for one thing, with accreditation available and the chance to progress and make a career with St Austell Brewery.

We truly believe that it is our staff who help make us great and are the key to our success. Our kitchens are fun, exciting places, producing fresh, home cooked food to a very high standard and staffed by dedicated professionals.

What’s more, we’ve just refurbished the Oystercatcher and made it even better than before, serving St Austell beers and wines, locally sourced fresh fish, pub classics, lighter bites and sharing platters.

What will I be doing?

As a Kitchen Porter, you’ll be supporting activities in our kitchen and getting involved with everything from basic food preparation to cleaning tasks and washing up.

Under the direction of the Head Chef, you will make sure that our kitchen is clean, tidy and efficient and all assigned tasks are carried out with enthusiasm and drive.

What will I need?

Although no experience is required, to be considered as a Kitchen Porter, you will need:

- A valid driving licence and access to your own vehicle (due to location)
- An enthusiastic and eager approach
- The willingness to work as part of a team and learn new skills

Previous experience as a kitchen porter would be beneficial to your application. A food hygiene certificate at Level 1 or 2 would also be an advantage.

Other organisations may call this role KP, Kitchen Assistant, Catering Assistant, Assistant Chef, Trainee Chef, Junior KP, Pot-Washer, Trainee Kitchen Assistant, or Kitchen Helper.
