We are recruiting for a Software Developer to join our Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) Division within The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

MHRA enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.

CPRD, the UK's preeminent research service providing access to anonymised NHS data, is entering a period of significant expansion, offering increasing volumes of anonymised healthcare data for research and innovative services and products to support observational and interventional studies.

As Software Developer, you will create technology solutions to facilitate all aspects of healthcare data use for public health research and develop research-focused applications, databases, and services which utilise CPRD's large volumes of real-world data.

You will be responsible for writing code to create applications and services that deliver against researcher user stories and requirements, maintaining, enhancing, and optimising existing systems to accommodate and cope with ever increasing quantities of data.

Part of the Data, Tools, and Technology (DTT) team you will report directly to a Senior Software Developer as well as the Scrum Master of project-based agile teams. You will liaise regularly with CPRD research product owners and the wider agency Information Management Division (IMD).

We are seeking a motivated individual with a strong sense of personal accountability, who can undertake software development within a structured framework, including fixing bugs and providing post release support and maintenance.

You will have a sound understanding of up to date technologies and, appropriately qualified, or with the equivalent relevant experience, you will also have:

  • Experience of developing software following agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programmes or scripts of medium to high complexity
  • Knowledge of analysing programmes, processes, or services to identify opportunities for improvements and optimisations.
  • Familiarity of working with existing code-bases to fix identified faults and ensure automation and testing are followed.
  • Ability to provide accurate progress reports and information.
