Role: Conveyancing Assistant
Salary: GBP18000 per annum
Location: Sheffield
Our client provide expert legal advice and offer a vast range of services that help in all key stages of life.
The role:
The job holder will provide efficient and effective legal advice, assistance and representation for clients maintaining the highest standards of professional expertise and client care at all times. They can expect to build and run a caseload of primarily residential conveyancing.
The job holder will be expected to make every effort to obtain a speedy result for the client, to be accessible to their clients and to maintain regular and appropriate contact with them. They will also be expected to deal effectively and considerately with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
The job holder will be directly responsible to the Head of the Civil Department and to the Partners of the firm in general. They will also be responsible to a supervisor nominated by the firm for their day to day performance in respect of their legal work.
Casework
Carry out own casework and assist other fee earners with their casework as follows:
?? Deal with correspondence and telephone queries
?? Deal with clients requiring advice on conveyancing in person, managing the client's expectations
?? Provide written advice to the client, where necessary
?? Maintain proper diary systems
?? Produce documents and instructions
?? Submit interim and final bills on a regular basis
Miscellaneous
?? Produce own documents and carry out own admin
?? Travel to other offices and other locations as required in order to carry out casework
?? Keep up to date with changes in the law and procedures
?? Deal quickly and efficiently with clients
?? Ensure that cases are conducted in accordance with Law Society guidelines
?? Maintain confidentiality
?? Meet chargeable time and financial targets, as agreed with the Head of the Civil department
?? Attend meetings and training sessions, where relevant to the job holder's role
?? Maintain diaries, including any team diary
?? Draft bills and completion statements and SDLT returns
?? Prepare files for Land Registry applications and attend to Land Registry requisitions
?? Deal with post -completions scheduling in preparation for file closure
?? Check and action files for review
The successful candidate:
Essential criteria:
Proven track record in assisting a conveyancing fee earner.
Experience of working in conveyancing in a similar role
Experience of working in a firm with CQS accreditation
Experience of conducting own caseload in the area of conveyancing
Experience of preparing bills
Knowledge/experience of accounts procedures e.g. requesting cheques, closing files, payments on accounts
Good telephone manner
Excellent client care skills
Working knowledge of using Windows, Microsoft Office, Powerpoint, Outlook and Case Management Systems
Excellent knowledge of the law relating to residential property and conveyancing practice
Good understanding of money laundering
regulations and procedures
Working knowledge of digital dictation systems
Desirable criteria:
Educated to degree level in law - second class or above
LPC graduate
Licensed conveyancer
