PML's internationally recognised marine system modelling group are seeking to employ a talented and creative scientist to work within a dynamic team of modellers with a strong interest in coastal and estuarine high resolution coupled hydrodynamic-biogeochemical models. The successful candidate will work on a range of research projects directly connected to the investigation, evaluation and remediation of impacts of change (climate and anthropogenic ) on the coastal environment in a policy and socially relevant framework.
The successful candidate will use the FVCOM unstructured grid model and a range of biogeochemical models including PML's ERSEM model on a variety of domains, from the UK shelf to individual UK estuaries and coastal regions as far as Cambodia.
Candidates should have a proven track record in setting up, running and analysing results from coupled hydrodynamic, preferably unstructured grid models. Candidates should have good programming skills (from conceptual design to code development) with skill in python and fortran languages.
You will have:
- A PhD or equivalent experience in physical or mathematical sciences
- An understanding of physical processes relating to ocean coastal processes
- Experience of analysing output of hydrodynamic models
- Good programming skills in Fortran and Python or another appropriate data processing and visualisation language
- User to expert knowledge of Linux Environment
- Familiarity with High Performance Computing environments
Other desirable skills
- Experience with Gitlab, HTML programming, GIS systems
