Target Temps are looking for a Grade 15, waste and recycling Manager for their client in Croydon.
Hours (per week):
36 hours per week - 3 month contract
Reports to:
Head of Environment & Leisure
Responsible for:
5 FT Members of staff, including direct line management of, New Builds and Parks Events Manager
Role Purpose and Role Dimensions:
Responsibility for the day to day operational management of recycling services, which include transfer station, household waste and recycling centres, neighbourhood recycling centres and being the borough liaison for the Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) at Beddington Lane, and evaluation of development of kerbside collections.
Prioritisation of recycling services
Budget management of waste/recycling services
Recruitment of staff
Contract management of waste/recycling services.
Must be able to travel around the borough to visit parks and open spaces, public highways and private land as required and attend meetings.
This role involves some evenings and occasional weekend working
Essential knowledge:
* Member of the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management or similar qualification or extensive experience.
* Knowledge of specialist techniques, vehicles, plant and equipment associated with services.
Essential skills and abilities:
* Excellent leadership and motivational skills and ability to manage and development staff.
* Experience in preparing and monitoring budgets.
* Ability to prepare long term strategy for waste management and associated services.
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload with constantly changing deadlines.
* Competency in use of computerised procedures and systems.
* Ability to promote the council's policies on equal opportunities and customer care.
* Ability and willingness to travel around the borough.
* Full understanding of quality assurance, customer care, equalities and health and safety.
* Interest and enthusiasm for the environment.
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and write committee reports.
* Ability to project manage change and implementation of service improvement.
Essential experience:
* Extensive and demonstrable experience in work area with knowledge of relevant legislation and contract management.
* Experience in preparing and managing contracts, interpreting contract conditions/specifications and excellent negotiating skills.
* Experience of project managing the development and introduction of new service improvements
