Network Infrastructure Design Engineer
A Network Infrastructure Design Engineer with is required to work on a twelve month contract with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Bristol
This is a Network Infrastructure Design role on the latest Military Naval Ship.
Overview of the Network Infrastructure Design contract role
Within the latest naval Combat Systems Shared Infrastructure (SI) Team, you will be coordinating the requirements definition, delivery, acceptance, and support of the network architecture for the Naval Combat System network architecture.
Key Outputs/Deliverables:
* Review of Design Documentation relevant to networks area.
* Completed Interface Specifications as allocatted (eg ELAs).
* Sub-system Data Flow Database.
* Layer 1 Network Configuration Database.
Responsibilities
Major Tasks and Activities:
1 Assure that Supplier provided designs/specifications meet platform requirements.
2 Support the development of interface documents that capture how using subsystems will interface with the network.
3 Review Supplier provided design documentation for accuracy and adherence to agreed design architecture.
4 Support activities to understand the through life costing of the network infrastructure and to identify innovative concepts to reduce through life costs.
Key Technical Skills:
* Understanding of Network design and delivery processes, including L3 switching and LAN/WAN routing.
* Understanding of Serial Communication Networks.
* Understanding of Network Traffic Management techniques.
* Understanding of Network Security Principals
Company/Industry Knowledge:
* Desirable for a good understanding of the equipments and engineering processes used on Integrated Military systems, specifically, current Royal Navy platforms or other Military/OGD Information Systems projects..
Qualifications:
HND or degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent
A recognised industry standard network qualification is desirable (e.g. CCNA/JNCIA or higher).
The role is based in Bristol - commutable from Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, Worcester, Cirencester, Swindon, Devizes, Trowbridge, Bath, Taunton, Bridgwater, Weston-Super-Mare, Newport and Cardiff
