The role will focus primarily on the Liverpool 8 area, and will involve working in the area and sourcing stories from the community.

Previous journalism experience or training is not essential. We want people who care about their communities, and want to make a difference in local communities. We're especially keen to hear from people who believe they can help make our newsrooms more representative of the communities they serve.

About the role:

You will receive industry-leading digital journalism training and hands-on newsroom experience, as well as the gold-standard NCTJ journalism training to become a fully-trained journalist.

As a Community Reporter, your main role will be to engage with people in Liverpool 8 to curate, collate and create content relevant to them. You will take responsibility for developing relationships and generating stories which re-engage the local community with the Liverpool Echo.

You will be publishing packages of content to a high standard, writing headlines and uploading words, pictures, video and audio that you have sourced. Providing insight to the wider newsroom about the issues and concerns of Liverpool 8 will be an important part of the role.

About you:

You do need to have at least 5 GCSEs with Maths and English at a C or above (or equivalent). We also welcome people who are doing a completely different job - and want to make a career change to become a journalist.

We are offering two routes into journalism as a result of this scheme. For applicants with no previous journalism experience or education, we are offering journalism apprenticeships, which combine intensive training with on-the-job experience in local communities.
