Long term commercial gas/steam plumber required for full-time maintenance position at HMP Isle of Wight.
Your new company
As one of the leading suppliers to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit multiple qualified trades including both plumbers and gas plumbers on the Isle of Wight.
This is a long term contract starting ASAP. You must be local to the area as travel to and from the mainland is not covered. The rate varies between GBP17.15 - GBP19.86 depending on pay type - this is either paid PAYE through us or through an Umbrella company.
Your new role
As part of the Works Department you will be responsible for both reactive repairs and planned and preventative maintenance. Currently the Prison has several refurbishment and general day-to-day maintenance projects underway. As such the prison require plumbers qualified in either gas or steam, these must be commercial qualifications rather than domestic. There is a steam plant on site, therefore a steam qualified plumber is also required to help maintain this.
The Maintenance role is in a unique working environment with a strong sense of team working. Always in demand, you could benefit from long-term contracts and there is also potential, once trained, to work in other prisons both locally and nationally. You must be local to the prison or have your own transport.
What you'll need to succeed
You must have up-to-date qualifications in either gas or steam on a commercial basis, you will need to be able to provide evidence of these qualifications for both ours and the prisons's records. The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and be able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Full training on working within a prison is provided by the establishment/ department.
Security Clearance required:
All applicants will be subject to a DBS certificate which will be Hays funded as long as all information is declared prior to it being completed. You must hold a Valid Passport or Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address. All applicants must be able to provide details of 2 satisfactory references, at least one from an ex-employer.

- Weekly pay whilst through us as agency worker until you go permanent.
- You will be single site based, so there is no travelling as part of the role.
- Monday to Friday hours - 37.5 per week minimum.
