An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our client’s Integrated Substance Misuse Service at HMP Channings Wood as a Counselling Co-ordinator.
Counselling Coordinator
Location: HMP Channings Wood
Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week
Salary: £23,000 - £25,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Contract: Permanent
Although this role will be primarily based at HMP Channings Wood, delivery may be developed more widely (in particular HMP Dartmoor) as the placements and programme expands.
In this role you’ll provide counselling interventions (Bereavement, PTSD etc.) to people with current or previous substance misuse issues. You’ll work closely with their Recovery Workers to set up screening and referral pathways to identify clients who would most benefit from this type of support. You’ll co-ordinate and arrange supervision for student and volunteer counsellor placements within the service to expand the opportunities to access counselling for our client group.
You’ll work as part of a team to promote the services available, and to encourage an environment and culture of 'visible contagious recovery’, providing back up as required through the provision of assessment, recovery planning, appropriate referral and psychosocial interventions.
What they’re looking for
They’re looking for an individual with the passion and ambition to support and seed change with their varied client group. You’ll have experience of counselling - ideally within a similar recovery orientated environment - and of structuring counselling interventions. The ideal candidate will also have line management experience, and all applicants will need to have some experience supervising staff and/or volunteers.
Knowledge of substance misuse and recovery focused approaches is essential, along with some awareness of prescribing regimes and current substance misuse legislation. You’ll also need to be IT literate and comfortable using technology. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) are particularly important as you will be communicating with a range of stakeholders.
You’ll have at least five GCSE (including Maths and English), a Counselling Diploma, and will either have, or be working towards registration with BACP (or equivalent). An additional qualification in delivering cognitive behavioural approaches or compassion focused therapy would be an advantage.
