Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for the care, welfare, husbandry of genetically altered rodents within specialised barrier systems
• Responsible for the successful maintenance of rodent breeding or experimental programs
• Assist in the maintenance of equipment
• Ability to effectively maintain animal record management systems including database systems
• Ability to prioritise day to day tasks for self and junior staff
• Work within defined Standard Operational Procedures (SOP's)
• Participation in suitable training programs
• Responsible for the upkeep and housekeeping of a defined area
• Ensuring that the Health and Safety requirements are continually met by keeping up to date with legal requirements, assessing all working practices for level of risk and regularly review process
• Maintaining all breeding and experimental records within a database system to appropriate standards, updating researchers as to breeding performance of specific strains

To apply for the role of an experienced Animal Technician, you will need to have the following experience and qualifications:

• Experience of working with animals or hold an animal related qualification
• Working knowledge of the Animal Scientific Procedures Act
• The ability to follow set procedures with a keen eye for detail
• A genuine passion for working with animals and their welfare
• Home Office License Modules 1-3 (desirable)
• IAT Level 2 qualifications or equivalent (desirable)
