At Luton Community Housing (LCH) we pride ourselves on being a great place to work, where everyone feels fairly treated and enjoys their work in a welcoming and friendly environment. We’re a not-for-profit housing association that has been providing affordable housing in Luton and South Bedfordshire since 1962.

Our mission is “HOMES SUPPORT OPPORTUNITY” - as well as providing housing for our customers we firmly believe in proactively supporting them to improve their lives.

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Maintenance Officer to join our Maintenance Team. You’ll play an important role in LCH’s planned maintenance programme of work, as directed in respect of the day-to-day, cyclical and planned maintenance of the Association’s housing stock. You will also be supporting the Maintenance Team in providing a quality maintenance service and an excellent customer service for LCH tenants, agents and others. You’ll need to work at a good pace and take responsibility for meeting tight deadlines. You’ll enjoy seeing the difference your work will make to our customers in their homes.

These are some of the things you’ll be asked to do in your role.

  • To carry out works associated with the maintenance/refurbishment of LCH property as may be required by LCH.
  • To work unsupervised in occupied/unoccupied premises, alone or with other LCH maintenance operatives, depending upon the nature of works required.
  • To provide high quality, value for money service with an emphasis on customer care, to all customers is an essential requirement.
  • To ensure all works are completed fully, in accordance with the job specification, relevant legislation and industry best practice.
  • To ensure all updates to paperwork and systems are correctly completed in a timely fashion.
  • To be responsible for the care and condition of vehicles, including washing the vehicle, checking tyres, MOT, road tax, as well as maintaining plant, tools and equipment issued or used by the post holder.  To provide all necessary report forms or verbal reports relating to the safe, correct functioning of all equipment immediately advising of any defects requiring repair.
  • Communicate well with customers, colleagues and external contractors
  • Keep colleagues up to date on matters concerning property condition and any other issues that will help with the smooth running of LCH
  • Take responsibility for your own health, safety and welfare and that of anyone else who may be affected by your work
  • Attend emergency situations outside normal working hours, if necessary
  • Take responsibility for undertaking the appropriate level of CRB Disclosure every 3 years, updating HR of any changes in your status
  • Understand and follow LCH’s policies and procedures at all times, including Health and Safety and Fairness.

About you
You’ll play an important role in LCH both now and as we develop and grow. We need people to join a small team of like-minded people, who are committed to meeting the needs of our maintenance and repairs department. You’ll ensure that the reputation and work of the department is of a high standard.

You’ll be a rare individual who is capable of displaying teamwork yet capable of lone working when needed.

Our ideal candidate will have previous experience in the repair and maintenance of residential properties, preferably with multi-trade experience too.  You should hold an NVQ or equivalent in your trade and be educated to ‘O’ Level/GCSE standard in English and Mathematics or equivalent. You will be able to demonstrate excellent practical skills and an awareness of current Health and Safety best practices. You will also need to have a full, clean driving license for this role.
