As our clinical specialist occupational therapist…

The purpose of the lead clinician therapy role is to guide and develop clinicians in a variety of settings to ensure the delivery of a high quality therapy service to children, young people and adults with complex needs. This will also require the therapist to support families and carers where necessary. There is an expectation to take on a complex caseload within the service. This will be achieved by working flexibly across settings, mentoring staff and joint working to support ongoing development of clinical skills across the team. The clinical therapist will work alongside the Team Lead to ensure that professional guidelines are met, and that services are meeting the requirements of our commissioners.

Key Responsibilities

  • With team Leader to report to Together for Families Head of Therapy to ensure the services are meeting commissioned requirements
  • Support Occupational Therapy workforce using mentoring and supervision
  • Develop and use the Occupational Therapy Process appropriately within a wide variety of settings
  • Provide expert clinical advice to service users, parents and carers, schools, residential services and day provision
  • Support input of relevant information into Education and Health Care Plans
  • Provide training to partner organisations, parents service users as required
  • Provide reports as necessary to reflect clinical needs abased on excellent assessment and interpretative skills
  • Ensure a flexible approach to working to support the needs of the service and the service users
  • To consider the functional contexts in which a child or young person operates and develop a range of strategies to support their independence
  • Provide training to partners and parents to support understanding of a range of children and young people with Complex difficulties

About you…

It is essential you are a registered member of the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) with a current practicing certificate. You will have a knowledge of relevant paediatric assessments, current OT models and clinical governance, as well as excellent observational and communication skills. You’ll have experience of working as an occupational therapist within a multi-disciplinary team in a range of clinical settings.
