Heat Treatment Operative IFAA80011

Hillsborough, Sheffield

£27,000 basic plus overtime

Our client is a premium supplier of high integrity forged products to quality markets globally. They have created a fully integrated metals service centre which has grown to be a leading provider of open-die quality forgings, making safety critical components in service conditions from the deepest oceans to outer space. Their flexibility and scale of operations means that they can provide both highly specialised “one-off” forgings as well as volume production.

They now have an excellent opportunity for a Heat Treatment Operative to join their Heat Treatment Team.

Ensuring that heat treatment processes are conducted to instruction and procedure and that all work is carried out to the organisational Health and Safety standards, you will build and unload charges document layout (digital photos) operate rail bound charging machines, charge and discharge batch and lift off cover furnaces and operate oil/water quench equipment.

Monitoring furnaces (including charts and instrumentation) and recording process parameters (water/oil/intermittent part temperature during the heat treatment cycle), you will conduct Brinell hardness tests and report results in accordance with quality procedures, assist in hot material transfers from forge departments and maintain aerospace standards within the department at all times. Additionally, you will maintain identity of each part/bundle during and after heat treatment, deliver completed orders to appropriate warehouses/storage and operate forge furnaces overnight.

In order to be successful in this role, it is essential that you have experience of handling hot products whilst working in a hot environment, hold an overhead Crane and FLT licence and possess an excellent attention to detail. A team player with good IT skills, you will have a good understanding of quality procedures.

Ideally the candidate would be trained in operating a 3-point bend straightening press.

Experience of driving a forge manipulator and knowledge and experience of working with aerospace systems e.g. NADCAP/RPS953 would be beneficial, as would training in Brinell hardness testing, however this isn’t essential.

Hours of work: 37.5 per week (split over 3 shifts, morning, afternoon and nights). Additional 4 hours overtime on Sundays (every third week - night shift only).

Flexibility on hours worked is required to cover for departmental holidays and sickness to ensure the smooth running of the department.
