Lead Teacher / Teacher / Unqualified Teacher

White Trees is recruiting for a SEMH Teacher to work with KS3 & 4 students with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). This role is a permanent position starting January 2019. We are a small independent school that specialises in working with SEMH students. We are ideally looking for a SEMH Teacher who has some experience working within this field, but would also consider strong unqualified teachers with experience working with students with SEMH. The majority of the teaching takes place off site at a number of different locations, including the libraries, offices and local gyms and parks.

About the Role

  • SEMH Teacher
  • To mentor and build strong and successful relationships with KS3/4 children aged between 11 and 16 (with potential to increase to 18/19 in the near future)
  • Working with a small, but solid, team of teaching staff
  • Permanent position starting January 2019
  • Suitable for someone who can drive
  • Salary starting at £30,000, with a TLR for a lead teacher
  • Being responsible for the learning of 4-8 students as part of a team. Each team consists of a Lead teacher, Teacher/UQT, Tutor with additional staff to support where needed.
    • A lead teacher oversees their team and is responsible for the planning, teaching, learning, progress and personal development of their students
    • Teacher/UQT shares a portion of this responsibility appropriate to their experience
    • Tutors either support teachers in class or tutor students 1:1
  • Responsibility for a subject lead within the school

About the us

  • A small independent specialist school for students with SEMH
  • Less than 15 students currently attend the school, but the school is looking to expand to 30 over the coming years
  • A new leadership team has recently taken over and are putting the school in a position to achieve Good within the next 6 months and progress rapidly beyond that
  • Students’ behaviour is challenging and they have a low level of learning
  • Lessons are taught on site in small groups but a substantial amount of teaching takes place on a 1:1 basis, and these generally take place off site at a number of publicly accessed locations
  • Small team of teaching staff, who have excellent relationships with the students (no more than 10 staff in total)
  • Expansion plans are in place, and a new space for learning is being acquired in the New Year
  • Located in the Hertfordshire area (easily accessible by a 40 minute train journey from central London and 30 minutes from Cambridge)

In order to be considered for this role, the SEMH Teacher will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor of Education / PGCE / or equivalent teaching degree with QTS (unqualified teachers with SEMH experience will also be considered for this role)
  • Proven experience teaching the UK, or an equivalent, curriculum
  • NQTs and/or OS-trained teachers are welcome to apply
  • Have strong communication, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Prior experience working with students with social, emotional and mental health needs (preferred)
  • Eligible to work in the UK (must have valid visa)
  • Recent classroom-based references and valid DBS/police checks

If this sounds like the opportunity for you, please apply ASAP.

Many thanks
