Job Purpose

Age UK are currently expanding our Health and Safety team to develop, coordinate and implement the health, safety and wellbeing elements of Age UK's Health and Safety Strategy.

Providing a range of inspiring, supportive and enabling services to enable Age UK's people to live well, work safely and ensure that their work complies with statutory and regulatory frameworks.

Providing expertise, advice, oversight and training in relation to health and safety.

Developing, supporting and delivering new systems of compliance conformity.

Main Responsibilities

• To develop, support and deliver the Health and Safety strategy as part of the function of the safe and well team.

• To meet and where possible exceed the goals of the Health and Safety strategy aims and objectives.

• To develop, undertake and act on the findings of risk assessments and statutory reporting mechanisms. To actively participate in the Retail annual shop risk assessment process and take ownership of the risks in the retail portfolio within the East of England region. Support, enhance and deliver risk assessments for fieldworkers, lone workers and events teams.

• To monitor evaluate and audit all Retail compliance checks, risk assessments and processes to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.

• To assess, investigate and resolve any accidents and incidents. Follow up investigations, improvement plans, training schemes and where relevant RIDDOR compliance. Follow up with awareness raising for the Charity, Safe and Well team and individual shops.

• Keeping up to date with all statutory legislation and good practice. Input and develop any policies where required to ensure they are relevant and effective.

• Undertake an active program of shop audits to monitor, check and reinforce compliance training and good practice.

• To deliver face to face training with regards to compliance management, manual handling training, accident investigation and other areas where there is an identified requirements.

• To ensure that environmental conditions within the sites covered are adequate, safe and comply with legislation. Investigate shortfalls and support in remedial actions or pursue third parties to resolve

• To work collaboratively with the Safeguarding and Diversity functions of Age UK to best support staff and volunteers.

• Support the Estates Management team with their landlord/tenant and maintenance operations providing support and guidance to ensure there is a holistic approach to workplace management.

Experience

Essential

• Previous significant experience in a health and safety advisory/management role. Up to date knowledge of health, safety and wellbeing research and practice

• Previous experience in developing and promoting wellbeing activity.

• Experience of developing. Implementing and delivering health, safety and wellbeing training.

• Experience of working in a large multi-site organization.

• Experience of developing and reviewing policies, procedures and guidance.

• Experience of accident investigation and writing reports.

• Experience of identifying and using management information to mitigate adverse health, safety and wellbeing risks

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of UK safety legislation

• Self-motivated, flexible and positive.

• Comfortable with influencing a variety of stakeholders across the organization

• Able to manage multiple projects at all stages

• Proficient in Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint

• Knowledge of health, safety and wellbeing statutory, regulatory and best practice frameworks

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Able to collate, analyze and report relevant management information

• Completing and finishing tasks such as investigations, policy roll outs and training.

• NEBOSH general certificate (or equivalent)

• NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)

Desirable

• Confident in delivering training, briefings and workshops to all levels of staff

• Able to evaluate all projects using a variety of tools and report back appropriately

• Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH)
